The Ancient Fortress in the Sky

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Sigiriya, also known as the Lion Rock, is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rising 200 meters above the surrounding plains, this ancient rock fortress was built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa and is celebrated as a masterpiece of architecture, engineering, and artistry.

At the summit, visitors will find the ruins of a royal palace, breathtaking views across the Cultural Triangle, and the remnants of ancient gardens. The ascent to the top takes you past the world-famous Sigiriya frescoes—delicate paintings of celestial maidens—and the polished Mirror Wall, once so well maintained it reflected the king’s image. The surrounding water gardens and moats showcase advanced hydraulic systems that were centuries ahead of their time.

Sigiriya is more than just a climb; it is a journey into Sri Lanka’s rich history and culture, combining archaeology, legend, and unmatched natural beauty.
