The Heart of Sri Lanka’s Culture and Heritage

Kandy, Sri Lanka

Kandy, nestled among misty hills and tea-clad mountains, is the cultural and spiritual capital of Sri Lanka. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage City, Kandy is most famous for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), which houses Sri Lanka’s most venerated Buddhist relic – a tooth of Lord Buddha.

The city is also renowned for the grand Esala Perahera, a spectacular annual pageant where elaborately decorated elephants, dancers, and drummers parade through the streets in honor of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Beyond its religious importance, Kandy is a hub of traditional arts, crafts, and cultural performances.
